Fall Classes after a Beautiful Summer

Farmers Market Tomatoes

Hello there my Dear Readers and Fellow Bloggers!

I know its been a while since I posted anything… I’ve just been busy soaking up the summer and its bounty with my family who was visiting from Zimbabwe and being spoilt rotten by them too.

I am so obsessed with sun ripened tomatoes right now that it’s almost crazy!  I don’t seem to be getting enough of them.  They taste great in a simple bread and butter sandwich sprinkled with freshly ground pepper and sea salt (my mum’s favorite) or served with mozzarella and drizzled with a fruity olive oil (my sister’s favorite) or cut thickly and quickly fried in ghee and served alongside a sunny side up egg (my dad’s favorite) – you get the picture!

Anyway, I would like to share with you my upcoming classes for the Fall.  I do hope that for those who do live close to the Twin Cities would give it a bash!

Here we go – the following Classes for this Fall.

Indian Spices 101

When: Thursday October 2nd, 2014 (6 – 9pm)

Where: East Ridge High School, Woodbury, MN

Tap, tap, tap goes the sound of your foot on the floor in front of the spice aisle in a grocery store… and then you walk away confused. After this class, you will be able to confidently pick up at least a couple of spices at the store before sauntering off! Learn about individual spices used in Indian cooking and their properties. Don’t let the spices daunt you. Learn how to work with them to compliment the dishes you make. Each student will be making a curry at the end of class to share. This is a hands-on class.

Indian Appetizers

When: Thursday October 30th, 2014 (6 – 9pm)

Where: East Ridge High School, Woodbury, MN

Have you munched on a bhajia (pakora), a deep fried savory fritter and wished you knew how to make them? Well here’s your chance. I’ll show you how to make classic pakoras, as well as pani puri; tangy garbanzo beans stuffed into a tiny paper thin pastry shell and filled with cilantro chutney. Prior knowledge of spices is not necessary to make these simple Indian finger foods. This is a hands-on class.

Think vegetarian food is boring? Well you guessed wrong! I’ll show you fun and easy ways to cook vegetarian meals using simple spices from her masala dhaba (spice box). You will make batata fry, a turmeric spiced and cumin scented potato curry; dhaar, a spicy lentil dish infused with curry leaves; and vigaarya, sauteed bell pepper, chilies and tomato spiked with mustard seeds.
