Chocolatey Date Syrup Truffles

Oh my gosh! I can’t tell you how much I’m in love with this heavenly after dinner treat. Actually it’s an any time treat if you ask me, it’s so darn good! And …. sshhhh… Don’t tell anyone there ain’t a speck of cane sugar in here. Yes, you heard me. Seriously there isn’t any sugar and don’t get me wrong, there aren’t any icky artificial sweeteners in it either. It’s pure and clean. Made with date syrup, cocoa chips and grass fed butter. These delightful balls are then rolled in unsweetened cocoa and cocoa nibs.

Gosh, let me tell you… you are going to wish you knew about these before… All the delicious feelings of eating a forbidden treat but without the after guilt.

Chocolatey Date Syrup Truffles

  • 1/2 cup date syrup
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa chips (unsweetened chocolate chips)
  • 4 tablespoons salted Kerrygold butter
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa nibs
  1. Pour the date syrup into a small pan and add the chocolate chips.
  2. Heat gently until the cocoa chips melt.
  3. Add the butter and stir until its incorporated.
  4. Remove from the heat and cool.
  5. Place in the fridge for about an hour or overnight.
  6. Scoop a teaspoonful of the truffle mixture at a time, shape into a ball and roll into the cocoa powder or cocoa nibs.
  7. Keeps well at room temperature for a couple of days.

There are three brands of date syrup I use. These are the Date Lady, Just Date Syrup and D’vash Date syrup. The Date Lady’s syrup is the perfect consistency and intensely sweet. I use this for baking and sweetening tea. Just Date Syrup is a little thinner in consistency, has a slight tang and is made from Californian dates. I use this one to add to cereals and desserts like chia seed pudding and yogurt bases. D’vash date syrup is super thick and intense perfect for making fudgy and thick delights, like my chocolatey date truffles.

I used the completely cocao chips from Trader Joes. Its a single origin cocoa from Ivory Coast and it’s organic too. I love eating the cocoa chips on their own. It’s not bitter like you would think. It has a pleasant cocoa bite with a slight tang to it. It’s an accustomed taste just like how a good pour over coffee would taste. You have to savor it to understand it.

These truffles taste really great with coffee.
